In Polish recipies we use "glass" in fact, not a "cup" (translated literally). I asked my wife about how she figures which cup is a size of glass. She said, it doesn't matter that much. One can always add some flour to have it that "you can feel it's right" 😳

The practice changes the perception. While assisting my wife in last Easter baking, she asked me for a cup to measure flour for the cake. I took one from cupboard, and she told me to take smaller one, since that cup was not proper size. She learned it by trial and error method.

Sure it is (the "cup"). But "season to tase" is always confusing when cooking new dish, which taste you do not really know.
