I like puzzles and have enjoyed attempting to solve this one. So far all my desktop attempts failed, and asking both an engineer and architect who were around during pre digital eras also failed. I want to keep trying as I am enjoying the mystery, but want to ask if you have solved this yet?

My brain has been melting, I can't find any diagrams on it.
I've gone as far as to find the double operculum mentioned in Meuller 1859 in latin.
And descriptions of some species. E. sidetoxylon, E. tricarpa, E. camalduldensis, and others. But usually not mentioned.
