ESPN needs to stay autonomous. Whenever there's a scandal with the league, the NFL Network just doesn't cover it. But ESPN does. Others do, too, but not with the platform that ESPN has. This is a quick way to sweep a lot under the rug.

The NFL sets the lowest bar ever of what its "commitment to diversity" tangibly looks like, but I suppose staying firm with at least supporting diversity in words is better than the alternative.
