This weekend I got in my last x-country ski of the season (I'm a newb). The lodgepole pines were sparkling like fake Christmas trees.

It's normally so windy here on the High Plains that we don't get this effect, but the mountains above town decided that winter was going out in style! #treesky

Happy #caturday! Raise your paw if you love helping with laundry.

I'm not used to winter continuing into April, but it does make for some pretty excellent sunrise runs.

Happy #caturday to this guy, who is very good at helping with my least favorite chore (putting away laundry) and also is my ray of sunshine in dark times

A friend visited the National Gallery of Art in DC and pointed out that my cat might be a time traveler from 19th century France

I'm v surprised to learn it's a little hard to find info on where wild burros (ie feral donkeys) are on BLM land. Lots of info on horses, but where my burros at??

I need this for a research project I'm starting on, and didn't expect to have to put much effort into this part of it.

Happy #caturday from this ferocious beast and the cuts on my hand that make people ask, "Do you garden without gloves or do you own a cat?"

Extra special #caturday this week: I came home from work super grumpy a couple days, and this is how my dude reacted the second day.

I ran today with a friend and his pup. We encountered a handful of pronghorn and the pup looked at them but didn't leave the path. Perfect pup behavior.

Happy #caturday from my dude and his toe beans

Happy #caturday! One of us drove an hour and a half in fog and snow this morning and earned this relaxation time.

The other one of us is a cat and earns every nap he takes.

Hmm yes, I remember the section in the Forest Service's document on "Confronting the Wildfire Crisis" where they said we definitely don't need experts on fire prevention or mitigation.

I don't know our rodent species here, but these look like field mouse tracks to me, including one flying into (or out of) its burrow

Maybe my favorite thing about moving to the High Plains is the way the prairie looks after a dusting of snow

Happy #caturday!

My dude—born in Louisiana, over a decade in coastal California—has no idea what to make of my rented snowshoes.

I've felt super gloomy this week (I wonder why?) but today we got print proofs of a magazine I've gotten to help edit. It looks so good and I can't wait for everyone I know to read it.

A fun thing is happening on the USDA Forest Service website right now

This guy was an absolute champ today, the first time he's had to go in his carrier since we moved to the High Plains.

Happy #caturday! Shout out to senior cats, which are the absolute best.

Instead of waking me up begging for breakfast, my dude stays in bed for hours after I wake up. So peaceful and content.

John Mayer's cover of Free Falling in last night's #FireAid was so good I had to rewatch it this morning.

Best part is how the crowd gave a roar of applause for Ventura Blvd.

Update on my cat's attack on the French Revolution: He has started eating the actual spine of the book, and at some point pushed the two next to it (A People's History of the French Revolution and an oral history of the May 1968 student and labor revolts) off the back of the shelf

Here he is, the counter-revolutionary himself
January 24, 2025 at 2:42 AM
A couple of weeks ago, my cat started biting at the dust sleeve of this book, Liberty or Death: The French Revolution. Today while I was at work he ripped it off the shelf.

We've lived together for 13 years and I'm just now learning he's a total counter-revolutionary?
