You’ve captured them beautifully! I love to sit and study moss and lichens. So plentiful and their delicate forms are so often overlooked.

It’s called marcescence and it’s postulated it may be to keep buds protected from browsing deer or to hold warmth. I have some oaks in front of my house that do this, and I love their red color behind my white pines! Nature is amazing!
