Just finished reading Vol 2 of Playing at the World, a fascinating look at the evolution of RPGs in the form of D&D, inspired by many threads that came before.

Now to read about PBM gaming.
Paper dreams, a history of play by mail gaming by David K Spencer. A blue cover with yellow text. A gandalf like wizard holds up a white US stamp with a maze image on it, costing 22 cents. In the sky are two moons and a dragon. Standing by the wizard is a robot or armoured sci-fi infantry man, a dark storm trooper like appearance. Also close by are a bow wielding female elf, an axe welding dwarf and a noir detective holding a pistol. They all stand on a clump of yellowish brown rock. The image is mostly warm hued yellows and ochre against blues. With soft browns and skin tones, plus deeper grey to black shadows.

After many years I finally own both books of the Amber RPG

"Amber RPG core rules" and the supplement "Shadow Knight". The cover of Amber shows various individuals and entities. With a pleasant mix of colours, with reds, blues, blacks and yellows making for a striking image. Guess I liked book one
A stack of the Valducan book series by Seth Skorkowsky. Book lies on top, Hounacier is a sharp blade and glows with magical power. Lurking in the background are book two and three, along with Gou Tanabe's The Shadow Over Innsmouth, illustrated with a deep one from the village; a frog or fish like human face glares back at us.

Sorcery TCG

A fantasy game with that old school MtG vibe. Although played on a grid, recalling Summoner Wars to mind.

Four starters from the recent reprint.
A sealed black box, wrapped in plastic which has faint blue text declaring the product to be for the Sorcery TCG. At Dice on the Borderlands the game of Tunnels and Troll climaxed with a Troll fight....or was it actually someone else?

Free league treats arrived
The One Ring, Realms of the three rings. A lovely yellow ochre cover with an almost black series of arches and columns. Elves drift through the scene. As my Virtual Grogmeet sessions had to be cancelled I am at a loose end...so adventure writing and a new arrival will replace running Toon.
Playing at the World 2e, volume 3: the three pillars of rpgs.
