Hiromi Go, the performer of the 28th series ending theme, "GO! De Ojaru", guest stars as himself. He serves as an important character in the story as he shares a "secret power" that is the key for Chico and Ojarumaru to switch back to their original bodies.

In the special, a public recording of Chico-chan ni Shikareru! will be held in Gekko-chou where Ojarumaru and his friends live. While at the TV station, Ojarumaru and Chico swap bodies when they accidentally bump into each other.

I think the same whenever I see dango at my local international market.

The song is largely unknown in the United States, even among anime and manga fans, because of Nintama Rantaro’s extremely limited presence here. Nonetheless, it’s a really catchy song and a nice learning opportunity for those studying Japanese.

Ojarumaru is very difficult to find, unless you live in Japan. Your best bet for watching it is through DVDs (released by NHK's home media division), such as "Wasureta Mori no Hinata", which has early 1st series episodes as bonus features. amzn.asia/d/9FLgajV

Supposedly, the creator of that series has been hesitant about allowing a US release due to concerns about potential copyright infringement claims from notable American companies. Not sure if his stance still applies today, but hopefully it’ll get sorted out.

Pretty surprising that this series is now getting an official US release considering how long it is. I’m interested in checking it out when it gets released this fall.

It gets surprisingly emotional when Choji's backstory is revealed and the reflective background music that plays from 5:53 to 6:28 really contributes to that. It will definitely leave you with feelings of warmth and a bit of melancholy by the end.
