This is actually the expected result, when you consider that the agency is now staffed with people chosen explicitly for their willingness to ignore policy and procedure. None of them will have read the obviously available and surely mandatory documentation on how to redact documents for release.

It’s a real shame that an upstanding company like CBS, with an unblemished history of unbiased reporting, had the wool pulled over their eyes on this one particular hire.

Seems to me that if you can’t tell anyone about what you’re building because of national security reasons, you have pretty clearly signalled to all enemies that it’s a high value target for them.

My understanding is that Interac charges a flat fee per transaction, while credit cards do a smaller flat fee plus a percentage. So there would be some point where a purchase of less than $X costs the merchant less when paid by credit. But I don’t know that for sure, and I don’t know the numbers.

What I’m saying is yes, this seems very much to be a case of racism that’s been intentionally added, not something that just accidentally happened “because AI”.

But there’s no reason, apart from somebody explicitly coding it this way, that it would use only Black training data for Black patients. Maybe there are reasons that this makes sense in other areas (though that seems dubious too), but I don’t see how it could be the case for cancer.

I’m no AI expert, but I am a programmer, and I can’t think of a way that it would do this without it being intentional.

Canada’s government is simultaneously pretty bad and miles better than the only other realistic alternative would have been. 😢
