Absolutely, coping mechanisms exist on a spectrum of “healthiness” i.e. between doing drugs and exercising, so we shouldn’t judge this in a vacuum. Many emotions, anger especially, act like a pressurized system, so you have to vent to handle safely in therapy and meditation, in my view.

While I would normally agree, there is a lot of attention being paid to this that normally wouldn’t be. Republicans will not disarm on gerrymandering so until some kind of independent redistricting framework is enforced on all states at once, something needs to be done to counter Texas et al.

Or to frame it another way, a state unified to protect democracy and prevent autocratic overreach at the federal level. This kind of stunning blow to the GOP’s agenda could make them think twice about continuing to push for gerrymandering in red states.

Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.

I think you would find this interview with Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, interesting in this context.

‘People thought I was a communist doing this as a non-profit’: is Wikipedia’s Jimmy Wales the last decent tech baron?
In an online landscape characterised by doom and division, the people’s encyclopedia stands out – a huge collective endeavour giving everyone free access to the sum of human knowledge. But with Elon M...

Fair enough and I can appreciate that you were responding to a likely biased perspective. I don’t know if I’d choose the word “contagion” either given its negative connotation, but I agree that these are discussions worth having, as long as we’re careful not to invalidate others’ lived experiences.

you’ll find that it’s extremely rare for trans youth to undergo surgery and, even then, it’s after years of therapy and consultations with doctors and psychiatrists. And of those who do, an absolutely minuscule percentage regret it. The vast majority say that it kept them from killing themselves.

Your framing of transitioning as “mutilation” is, quite frankly, shocking. The Cass Review is notably poor science so basing any conclusions on it is shaky at best and likely irresponsible. Furthermore, you’ve cherry picked a lot of stats here. If you look at studies by pediatrics associations,

Social Democracy != Socialism != Communism

In short, most forms of socialism do not abolish private property. They offer state-owned alternatives to the private market to improve equity and drive down prices to serve disadvantaged communities.

The FBI gutted its extremism analysts in February. They most certainly would have advised him not to read the writings of a killer live on air as it could easily inspire future violence.

Exclusive: FBI scales back staffing, tracking of domestic terrorism probes, sources say
The FBI has cut staffing in an office focused on domestic terrorism and has scrapped a tool used to track such investigations, in a shift that could undermine law enforcement’s ability to counter white supremacists and anti-government extremists, according to sources familiar with the matter.

“And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire's authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege. Remember this. Try.”

And then remember this. The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that.”
