Even the friendly in Nashville was outrageous, thus the terrible attendance. I would love to take my son to game not in Dallas, but between airfare, lodging, and ticket costs, it's a small fortune.

I know I'm old now, but 15-20 years ago games like this would have decent attendance. The ticket prices are not necessarily bad if you're local, but if you have to fly in for these types of matches, it's extremely cost-prohibitive.
