I'd argue that Samus' soliloquies were fine in Fusion, along with Adam's briefings. But maybe that was my brain imprinting some appropriate cadence upon them, and I would have expected Adam's tone to change during the reveal at the climax.

There was an old Metroid pixel comic a lifetime ago where Samus was her usual hardend badass self, and cracked a one liner every so often. And eventually she finds a social reject space pirate that was basically a Jar Jar Binks.
And at least he was an intentionally annoying but endearing character.
