Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2025 Verified Purchase Such a great debut fantasy! It has just enough political intrigue for me, but not so much so that it becomes too muddled down. The book’s pacing was exceptional, and the battle scenes were epic! I love the characters so much. Jastin, an old scholar with a bit of an obsession with the restricted section in libraries, is immensely lovable and hilarious. Isha is a badass courier, trying to figure out what’s going on with these strange dreams she’s having. Alif sits on the Council of Lords, and is the best friend of Engir (who wants to be the next Highlord). The way the story weaves together Alif and Aisha’s POVs is very well done and gives readers a full picture of everything going on. Can’t wait to see what Travis McDaniel puts out next!
