Mathilde Panot, the leader of the radical left France Unbowed (LFI) parliamentary group, has said Barnier’s government was “a provocation” after July’s snap election gave the left-leaning NFP alliance the most seats in parliament. “In a republic, only the people are sovereign,” Panot said in parliament after the result. Barnier’s adminstration had proved “the shortest-lived government of the entire Fifth Republic”, she said, ending in both “dishonour” for having made concessions to the far right and “censure” by deputies.
