Hence, why Christian indirectly effects George - a lead guitarists and one who greatly benefited from electric guitars. 🎸

Because of this feat and the way Christian pushed the guitar out of the rhythm section and into the front line of jazz orchestra's, he was also seen as the stepping stone to lead guitarists in bands.

Up until that time, jazz guitarists struggled (knowingly or not) with their instruments projection, as the technology of recording was only just starting to improve. Enter amplification and connecting a speaker directly to a guitar, you have yourself some clear sounds!

This swing and jazz cat who played with the Benny Goodman Sextet and Orchestra was not only a key figure in the development of bebop - he was among the first musicians to use the electric guitar!

Today's Black musician is more an indirect influence to George's life than directly - however he's still a very important piece of the music puzzle:

Here are a couple of quotes from George showing his love for Johnson and the blues genre - which made a notable mark on his music in both his solo work and a couple of his Beatles songs ("Savoy Truffle" "For You Blue" etc)

creds to harrisonarchive on tumblr for the quotes!

Robert Johnson was a blues guitarist and was best know for being a pioneer of the Delta Blues. However long ago he was around for, his unique guitar techniques and vocals were and are embraced by generations of blues musicians.

Happy Black History Month!

To celebrate, I'll be sharing the Black musicians who were important to George's life - whether they were an inspiration, collaborator, and/or covered his music.

Starting with the King of the Delta Blues himself, Robert Johnson!

However, there are certain points where I drew lines and wrote in the pages from Kahn's book. These little excerpts are George's own words from around that time.

Here's a picture of the post-its I put to mark whenever I have to go to Kahn's book - and one example of the lines

For example, whenever I'm done with the Dark Horse chapter in Leng's book, I'll start reading the coinciding chapter in Thomson's book. (These two post-its are when they would all sync up)

One of my goals for 2025 is to finish all of these books - I created a system for reading them. (Here's a thread of that system for those who are interested)
