Omg one of my favorite friar criticisms was "Filipinos are ADDICTED to bathing" (and washing off their feet before going into someone's house)....had to check rq but that one was Chirino and not Alcina 😔 just close enough in time to be another hater

But at the same time, the DIY patchworking of it all to understand this point in history with as much of a global perspective as possible feels right!

I love the ✨drama✨ of the gothic genre and I love history. and I love my mad scientist girl and the man she plans to attic-wife.

(they* as in "niche" regional resources/histories, aka anywhere in the global south. not in a gatekeeping way. like thru a violence and oppression kind of way, just to be clear)

Now I'm in a research pit made out of the necessity of DIYing colonial history resources together. It's taken me from 19th c. western medical history to the Crusades and, back & forth again, to my family's island(s) history in the Visayas.

I love it here. but oh my god. omg they dont make it easy.

These x-rays are so fun on their own, but genuinely (as someone who's undergone a lot of different GI-related tests) a barium swallow test is the worst I've ever done. would be all for taking the ring toss capsule instead 🙏

this was why I signed up in the first place -- hoping for more details/stats on my mom's side, since it's difficult to track genealogical records beyond like the last 2 generations (colonialism).

the fact that I can look at census/church records going back centuries for my dad's side is 🥲🥲 brutal!

the phrenology/physiognomy stuff is kinda jarring to me this time around, but 1/3 of the way in after many mentions of Jane and Rochester being judged unfairly by their looks, I'm getting very nervous
