I've been feeling this way for a while with this sort of black-or-white approach to criticism. To my mind, I find the hypothetical perfect game that polishes everything it does to a mirror sheen much safer and less interesting than the one that takes artistic risks and nails its strongest elements.

The latter. It's a collection of 50 fully featured 8-bit games, covering the development chronology of a fictional 80's game studio. And true to the era it's aping, the game scope runs the full spectrum from quick burst arcade games to multi-hour campaigns.

There's one particular game late into the chronology (Mini & Max) that I haven't gotten to yet myself, but my sister considers an actual contender for her Top 10 games list, and is stunned that she got that out of even one game in a package of 50.
