Oh god I just remembered the way he described her.

Some months back I was pissed because the free access to the New York Times that -all servicemembers- have via the DoD MWR library, was changed to the Wall Street Journal. But, y'know? Sometimes it's nice some stories are available to the whole service outside the paywall.

A (very conservative at the time but let's say, unorthodox) friend of mine once commented on the Republican-ness of Easy-E: "Man has money, wants to keep it."

I just heard All Things Considered reporting on it and ... they did OK!

I think that's pretty understated: like I think 25 years ago Eric Schmitt would have been read out of the GOP for THAT speech. I am not saying it wouldn't have been more performative than heartfelt but still.

Wall Street Journal (god help me -- but DOD makes it freely available online, it replaced the New York Times) also reports that Hegseth was the TEA, so he's the one for that engagement who was responsible for the call in any case. If he blew off that responsibility it is just one more failure.

"Wings of Desire" is a lot of walking.

"Three hours of unsuccessful surgery followed by four hours of successful surgery" would actually have been funnier? Or maybe I am weird.

out: to keep dangerous people out of the ranks. Trump wants them in. Also of course more often than not the mission demands some local or regional goodwill, so this stuff makes the mission harder and longer and endangers more Soldiers.

I have heard this argument but I think there are more significant ways it endangers us. When Gallagher was pardoned, an Army psychologist pointed out to me that the real reason DOD has psychologists is, every murderous psychopath in America wants to be in uniform and part of her job was to keep them

Fuck is wrong with cheese?

I'm thinking it's like the button on the old monitors that said "degauss" that you had to press once in a while. You put him in the big magnet and then he's OK, his ass has been degaussed.

Want to see in concert, maybe Turner can be a Dalek or something

Well, I mean, what _she's_ doing is. She's just not _good_ at it.

Right? You watch the absolute shittiest thing, and tell yourself, I will get through this with the class and artistry that he used to get through that.

Because of the "stranded on a desert island" thing, the only right answer is Christopher Walken, who time and time again is a shining light in a crappy movie. His roles remind you that however sucky the situation you find yourself in, you can nonetheless bring your personal best, again and again.

I think it's like the old button where you degauss your monitor maybe
December 1, 2025 at 8:10 PM
Wait, hold up. Servicemember here. Yeah, Hegseth may have given the order and should go down if he did. But if Bradley executed _this_ order -- yeah, so should he.

Ain't a whole lot of people who had access to those transcripts and would leak 'em, so...

Sort of a more exaggerated case of the same phenomenon, sometimes -- although "Europe Central" is somehow both long and readable - but wow "Dying Grass" is so dense that if I parted with it for a day I was lost, and man it is a hard slog sometimes

You're familiar with Vollman?

Nothing confuses me as much as heating Woz talk about how Jobs was so high-minded and spiritually driven when in fact Jobs was a dick and Woz seems to be reflexively, naturally decent and thoughtful.
