I'm still a relative newcomer to #Tacoma but is it normal for random strangers to approach you downtown asking if you'll drive them to Titlow Beach so they can "wrestle an octopus" in the water?

With this unsolicited request, I can commiserate with the lack of transit access to Titlow Beach.

As someone who commutes a few days a week between Tacoma and UW's Seattle campus via transit, I never take the 586 express bus, which is often delayed on I-5 and proposed to be axed next year. Last Wednesday, the 586 was running 51 minutes behind!

Here's a route diagram (via WTA) of the County Connector buses between Bellingham and Everett, which include Island County branches to Oak Harbor and Camano Island. Skagit Station in Mount Vernon is the hub of the network.

With the future Swift Gold Line (plus growth in Marysville and Arlington), there may be a need to connect the Swift Gold Line terminus at Smokey Pt with Skagit Transit's hub in Mt Vernon.

The University Line, connecting Downtown Pittsburgh and Oakland via Fifth Avenue and Forbes Avenue, is the transit centerpiece of realigned bus service feeding Oakland and the forthcoming bus rapid transit corridor into and out of downtown.

One alternative: If you're going between North and South Seattle and want to avoid the Link shuttle bus through downtown, consider taking Route 48 between the U District and Mt Baker light rail stations, via 23rd Ave in the Central District.

On Sunday in #Seattle, Sound Transit's Link 1 Line will be closed between Capitol Hill and SoDo stations through the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel. Although there will be a free bus shuttle, it's always good to know King County Metro bus alternatives.
