LZ's Transformers Stash

Hi! I'm LZ! I'm celebrating 40 years of Transformers history with regular spotlights of artifacts throughout the generations, from common to extremely rare!
Pictured here is a layout sketch by Bob Budiansky along with its final counterpart by Frank Springer for Marvel's Transformers: Headmasters spinoff series.

Interesting to see that Kup was considered for the center spot. That could explain the absence of Hot Rod's spoiler.

Both from my collection.

I stumbled across Hot Wheels Ultra Magnus this morning.
I still have never seen Optimus Prime.

Alas, I sold mine off a while ago. Oddly enough, I still have its original brown shipping box. And here's a pic I took back at the last OTFCC of what was supposed to be Sentinel's packaging -- a much closer match to MegaZarak.

Still one of the best ever.

This.
This is what the mainline of the Dynamite Transformers trading card series should have looked like. The best stuff was used for expensive gimmick sets.
And I fell for it.
Sigh.

Bruticus hates you all!"

Two down.
Three to go.

Well... only one other exists... so far.... I mean.... ah, the joke is over.

Between this multi-pack and Sunstorm, the Heroes of Cybertron Seeker mold was working overtime at OTFCC 2003.

I am happy that I was able to add this specific Transformers trading card to my collection. Some of you know why. 😉

Who do I need to contact to get a Transformers x Marvel Legends Circuit Breaker figure?

I'm not sure how I feel about the "toy picture" cards. These are clearly 3D renderings (or heavily photoshopped) of the toys. Note that Starscream has the new hands that allow him to hold a Megatron pistol. It's a shame because there are many people in the fandom that take awesome toy pictures.

Here are the contents of a Blaster box: approximately 45 base cards in retro stock (I got three doubles), and one oversized puzzle piece. Not pictured are 5 holofoil cards that do match the other holofoil series.

Continuing my coverage of the Transformers trading cards, be advised that the foil packs and blaster packs do not contain the same stock cards. Foil packs have the premium glossy cards. Blaster packs have retro cardboard stock, which is cool, but means they are different series....

To end on a high note, these were the best part of the Transformers cards set: new original artwork by Bob Budiansky!

To me, puzzle cards are the most boring of all trading cards. Even when the full image is assembled, it will be obstructed by nine sideways "40 Years" logos.

The next chase is found - Creators Card Brawn, which is pretty much a Brawn card with a quote from Simon Furman. Which leads me to ask, where are the Marvel artwork cards that were in the previews? Marvel art still appears on the outer box.

Um, something is odd here. Does Frenzy deserve two cards in this series? They each have different bios on the back, but share an identical front. (The front facing card is a true duplicate.)

Three packs in and I have found my first chase card: Premium Metal Megatron. Nice of Dynamite to have this metal card already in a protective sleeve.

First pack opened. 10 cards including one holofoil card (Shockwave). These really give off a similar vibe to the original 80s Hasbro trading cards.

Opening the outer box to reveal the card packs.

At long last, the Dynamite Transformers trading cards have arrived! Next up, the unboxing!

Welcome to the club!

My memory may be skewed, but this is what I recall: Only 50 copies exist and were given to those that had the Gold Pass at OTFCC 2023. I still have my gold badge. Another Gold perk was the dinner event (I sat next to Simon Furman!) I don't recall a Platinum Pass from that year.
