TRANSCENDENT Concussion Research Program

The TRANSCENDENT Concussion Research Program is dedicated to improving concussion research, diagnosis, management, and care.
📋Why this matters:
Using the updated ACRM criteria may help identify more concussions, especially in people with fewer symptoms. This could lead to more consistent diagnoses and timely care. Read the article here: doi.org/10.1097/HTR....

Key Results:
🥼Doctors were more cautious than the new criteria
📊In ~18% of cases, doctors were less likely to suspect a concussion diagnosis
🧠Underdiagnosis was more likely when patients had lower symptom severity
🕐Patients seen sooner after their injury received more definitive concussion diagnoses

Our research team applied these criteria to more than 1,400 patients seen at 360 Concussion Care clinics across Ontario. We compared the results to how doctors made their diagnoses using clinical judgment.
