“You know I always liked that empty road. No place to be and miles to go.” Roadtrips and Springsteen, Reading and Crochet. Politics. The right side of history is the left. (She/her)

Me: It would be nice if every once in a while there was some good news.
NYT:

I just saw concert video from tonight and as they enter the stage, you can see Bruce hold Stevie’s hand as he walks up the stairs, returning to the stage for the first time after emergency surgery. And it somehow filled my heart and kind of broke it at the same time. Those two guys, I love them so.

Well now I’m going to have Darlington County stuck in my head all day. “The world don’t know what me and Wayne might do.”

This shot in the Deliver Me From Nowhere trailer is like the recreation of the Last Supper in Jesus Christ Superstar. 😂❤️

Journalists have weird ideas about grandmas.
Are they not invited to the bbq? Do they not drink beer? How is a spectrum of activity? Side note, what percentage of NYT readers have a living grandma - compared to what percentage are a grandma?

People magazine has joined the revolt.

The first good New York Times alert in at least six months. Praise be!

I am not participating in FB anymore except for limited things I can’t do elsewhere - professional obligations and FB groups. But when I do those things I see the crap that is there. Exhibit A. I do not follow this dumb account but am still subjected to this obviously fake AI photo & gibberish copy.

Our 7-year-old car stereo pairs this Stevie Wonder pic w/ all Little Steven songs. Stevie Van Zandt took on apartheid! He is in the E Street Band *and* the Sopranos. He’s on the Rock Hall of Fame nominating committee. He has his own brand of lollipops and marijuana. There is *no shortage* of photos.

Anyone can see beauty in a mountain. But it takes another level of sensitivity to see beauty in the empty places.

One of my kids requested this book for Christmas- based on the name I assumed it was something about media consumption and spent a long time looking for it in “current events.” When I finally gave up and asked for help, it turned out it was in “horror.” I still don’t know if it’s nonfiction. 😂

I don’t want to brag .. but in Springsteen Heardle, I got 9 of the last 10 - and got 7 of them in one! Ok, maybe I do mean to brag!

Here’s a screenshot of that woman’s TikTok. Maybe I’m misinterpreting her tone, but she says it’s “one of the most unpatriotic songs *in history*” - seems like a high bar. And says he makes “millions” every July 4th. 😂🙄 I saw this thing a 1000 times this summer and I rolled my eyes every time!

After 9/11, we needed Bruce to gently confort us like a child, repeating “it’s all right” more than two dozen times with one additional “it’s going to be ok.” And now I, for one, need that again.

Our tree is trimmed and when the kids get home they will be so excited about this ornament!
Thanks @aoc.bsky.social - your pinned post is an inspiration!

This print “The Singing Butler” by Jack Vittriano, is, inexplicably, apparently the most popular wall art in America. I’ve seen it in hundreds of homes, I swear.

Every time I see Springsteen, he asks the audience if we really think that we can outlast the E Street Band. I always scream “yes.” Because that’s what he wants me to say. But in my heart, I know I absolutely cannot outlast the E Street Band. I don’t know that I even want to!

Fun fact: The E Street Band that existed in the Glory Days video, initially existed *only* in that video. The Patti/Nils/Steven triad didn’t appear in any previous time or place & didn’t reappear for a decade. Yet, it became, with the reunion tour, the most iconic iteration of the band.

It’s hard to feel optimistic about the future of the country, but then you stop at a gas station selling this amazing innovation in eggs. And you think “it’s still a great time to be alive!”

Was this supposed to look like a threat?

It’s the anniversary of the Gettysburg Address - a speech so short you could easily share on social media. But long enough to hold the hopes and dreams of a nation in a dark time - the hope that “the government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish for the earth.”

My adult son told me he spent the day after the election listening to the album Magic, by Springsteen. He knew it had helped me get through my bewilderment at the Bush Jr victory in 2004. Sad as it was, it felt good to know I’d taught my kids who to go to when the answers, they don’t amount to much.
