In class on Wednesday, we talked about existential psychotherapy, which I don't know much about but it made me think about how much of therapy involves confronting uncertainty and finding meaning. This can be both challenging and transformative in clinical practice. @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social

The activity we did where we chose from pictures to be our critical other was very eye opening. I chose the one that appeared to be a woman who looks slightly confused, getting towards an angry and disappointed state, almost looking like she's questioning what I'm doing. @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social

In class #5, we talked about Yalom's "Three Unopened Letters." I found that Saul's unopened letters were more than missed opportunities. They symbolized a lifelong avoidance of risk. Protecting himself from rejection also meant protecting himself from truly living. @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social

In class #4, we explored AI and therapy. One conclusion made was that while AI can support access, it can't replace the depth of human connection that therapists provide, which made me think about how AI might become more of a tool than a substitute in clinical psych. @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social

The fixation on immediate outcomes often overlooks the importance of long-term wellness. Even though psychoanalysis is typically slower and more intensive, it provides depth of change and lasting impact that makes psychoanalysis invaluable. #TalkingHelps #Psyc4666 @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social

Computerized CBT programs like Stressbusters may not transform therapy, but can represent a crucial step in expanding access for adolescents who might otherwise avoid seeking treatment. Sometimes the greatest step lies in simply making help accessible. #TalkingHelps @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social

It is interesting to see how evidence for CBT is often overstated, relying on statistics rather than meaningful clinical change. Psychodynamic therapies consistently show more benefits that last beyond treatment, but it is often dismissed. #Psyc4666 @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social

The NYT article on patients reading therapy notes made me think about transparency in mental health care. It boosts confidence & inclusion, but risks misinterpretation. It’s hard to know when sharing notes helps or causes more problems. Not sure where the balance lies.
