Shout out to Grafton & Upton Railroad 1191. It’s formerly CSX 1191 (obviously) and they lazily covered up the logo with gray paint and stenciled on “GU”.

I plan to model this in HO scale. I already have the CSX locomotive and need to renumber it and slap on some gray paint and “GU” letters.

A few photos from the South Shore Model Railroad Club’s open house in Hingham, Massachusetts this weekend.
They do regular open houses south of Boston and are worth visiting if you’re in the area!
Tracks on a hill in the background as tracks round the bed in the foreground too. Tracks loop around a town at the center of the layout while other tracks pass by a harbor in the foreground. Some folks are chatting in the background in another row of the layout. A lovely little neighborhood is inside a curve of the track. The layout extends to the far wall and also to the left about 20 feet or so. It’s BIG! A display of sidings sits atop the scenery divider. A train yard can be seen on the top level with a smaller lower level of tracks extending into tunnels. The lower level has its own illumination.

Kevin Gallagher’s Hopedale Shops was at the show. They specialize in custom paint jobs for New England short lines. I was surprised to see this Grafton & Upton box car! (I have a fondness for G&U.) I took their card and will be checking out their Facebook page… Photo taken by my son. He took A LOT of photos. I still need to look through them to see if there’s any keepers. An HO scale MBTA commuter rail train heads across an overpass on the Amherst Railway Society’s layout. There’s a company selling construction equipment in the background beyond the tracks. Northeast T-Trak had this cute module with a little farm stand and some massive N scale pumpkins by the tracks. (Compare the pumpkins to the size of the truck bed!) They’ll definitely need to ship these bad boys out by train. An orange New Haven sits on a third track on the closest edge of the module. A simple T-Trak module by Northeast T-Trak that made us laugh. The track moves from the back to the front on this double width module. It has a few buildings placed on the pale green surface. Scattered among (and on) the buildings are ten dinosaurs. A group of people appear to have taken refuge on the roof of the leftmost building.

Northeast T-Trak had a very nice custom painted N scale MBTA F40PH-3C. I wish someone would release this engine in MBTA’s current livery for N and HO. (Hey @rapidotrains.bsky.social!)

More AI slop. Do not buy crap like this!
Amtrak USA Ultimate Traveler’s Guide by Jerek Harleez features an “AdTRX” train on rails with a map of the US behind it. You can visit states like YETIOBS, BARG, and ROOT5X! Also, Connecticut and Rhode Island no longer exist. Amtrak California Zephyr Route 2025/2026 by Ashford Jasper features an AMEXXX train on life size Bachmann EZ-Track in a tiny canyon among mountains of what is probably supposed to be Nevada. America by Amtrak: Scenic Train Routes Across the U.S. with no author listed. I don’t even know where to start with this one. It’s the worst one yet. That looks like an early diesel locomotive, but it has handrails on the front for some reason and it’s also puffing steam. They could have asked their AI engine to try again, but they went with this for the cover anyway. Yikes! Tourist Trains Travel Guidebook by Thompson Ava Mae. On the left it says “hello Tourists 10th” and I don’t know why. Probably something related to this being the “10th Edition”. The train resembles Amtrak, but says “AMTTRNA” on the front and what looks like “CYSTBRIAN” on the side.

Just looked it up. I like that it has the rear wheels set back a bit more like Sierra #3 from the movie does. If only the bell and dome positions were swapped.

…but that price! $439?! OUCH!

I made zero progress all summer. Need to make myself sit down and model the Hill Valley train station in 3D so I can print it, paint it, and add the landscaping.
A square T-Trak module. The wooden box has been painted a dark gray on the sides and a brownish-tan on top. Two rows of Kato N scale track are screwed in place on the top of the module.

Ooh, I will need to pick up one of these so I can model the Sierra Railway No. 7 caboose, but painted and labelled as Central Pacific 7 as seen in Back to the Future Part III.
Sierra Railway No. 7 caboose is a red caboose with black trim. It has two centered windows in the body. The cupola is near the back of the caboose and has two windows on the side. A smokestack is in front of the window on the front of the cupola.

I’m always amused by the minimal ridiculousness of the Plimptonville MBTA commuter rail “station”.

I’d pay tribute with a T-Trak module, but that couldn’t convey the single track inadequacy.
