Finished a 2 week trip over land & sea from Belper to the Balkans. Zurich to Graz Transalpin Panoramic, Graz to Split night train & Bar to Belgrade. And we did some non train stuff too! Thanks for the advice especially @seatsixtyone.bsky.social Blog @ Polarsteps www.polarsteps.com/ShaunTreece?...

Whilst in Mexico we took the Ferrocarril Interoceanico train from Coatzacoalcos on the Atlanti to Salina Cruz on the Pacific. Despite the HST fleet lying idle.😢 this was an excellent trip on comfortable ex-Amtrak stock. @andybtravels.bsky.social @seatsixtyone.bsky.social @nonstopeurotrip.com

Took Tren Maya Mexico yesterday. From Merida 40 mins taxi from city c to Valladolid 10 mins by bus to centre. Tickets are 2x price for gringos. So why not use the excellent bus which is quicker overall, and half price? 🚆 Or 🚌?

We are currently roaming around the Yucatan Peninsula and had planned to use the new Tren Maya. But crikey, £27 each from Tulum to Bacalar, plus taxis to and from stations! I'm afraid we used the excellent ADO at half the price and no taxis. There's no incentive at these prices.

We took one of the older Hitachi units from Phnom Penh to Battambang and it perhaps was, and maybe always will be, my fave train journey ever. An iconic slow & meandering SEA train journey, wide open windows, dozing passengers and lots of refreshment stops. It doesn't get any better.

I was in Ashbourne yesterday watching the #ShrovetideFootball. This is no ordinary game of football and is played between the entire town with the goals 3 miles apart so scoring is rare, but a goal was scored by the downards to give them a 1-0 lead. If you are ever in Derbyshire its worth a look.

After consultation with TfW train staff we aborted the 12.30 and sheltered in the Piccadilly Tap. An excellent Thornbridge Kiwi and lome sour helped soften the blow 🍺

So it's Valentines day, almost. And I'd promised Mrs Trainmodder a meal at the best train restaurant in the UK. Let's say we were a little disappointed when the 12.30 Man-Car TfW MK4 set had been substituted 😢
