If trail work happens and no one sees it, the community never understands its value. That makes it harder to secure sponsors, donors, and partners who believe in your mission.

Social media is not hype. It is how you show the real work happening on the ground and invite others to invest in it.

Every trail organization has to communicate the value of its work, and today, most of that happens online. So here is the question we are asking the trail community: What has been the most effective way to communicate the importance of your work on social media?

Want to grow your volunteer base? Start with what people see.

In our research, one message came through clearly: when people see themselves represented in trail-building photos, videos, and stories, they’re more likely to join in.

We've been exploring the economic impact of trails on rural communities. There will be more to come.

Here's a question I've been reflecting on lately, and I'd love your feedback: "How do you encourage visitors to spend more money in your town before and after riding?"

We hear it all the time: trails create jobs. But what does that actually look like in practice? What kind of jobs are we talking about?

This week I'm working on an article exploring the "anatomy of a trail town." In other words, what are the components or ingredients that are needed for a town to be alluring to mountain bikers?

What are your trail town essentials?

Trail building works best when for-profit builders and nonprofit orgs collaborate. One brings precision and equipment. The other brings people and community trust.

When those align, trails flourish. What does a great partnership look like to you?

Trail building is about connection and resilience.

The same creativity that builds flow and beauty will help us adapt to a changing climate.

Trails cannot be built for the climate we remember. They have to be built for the one we have.

Calling your town a “trail town” is easy.

Living up to it takes work. Before you claim the title, ask: Are our trails visitor-ready? Is our community on board? Do we have infrastructure? Are we planning ahead? Is this our identity or a slogan?

Which do you love more: trail stories or gear reviews?

Some of you dig deep for the behind-the-scenes stories of builds, advocacy wins, and unsung heroes. Others want the nitty-gritty on tools, gloves, and gear that can handle the gnar.

We’re here for both. But we want to hear from you.

When brands and advocacy groups work together, the impact runs deeper than impressions or clicks.

It’s about shared purpose, combining a brand’s reach & resources with the on-the-ground relationships and credibility of advocacy organizations. Together, they can do more than promote; they can build.

Trails can spark economic revival in rural towns with new jobs and new hope. But growth is not always tidy. Without care, it can push out longtime residents. Adventure tourism has power, but also responsibility: who benefits, and who might be left behind?

Can trails help keep young people in town?

We’ve seen it happen.

When rural communities invest in trail systems, they do more than create outdoor access. They create reasons for young people to stay. See a future close to home.

What are you seeing in your community?
