As a pastor, I once was told not to preach on Herod killing the children during Advent and Christmas. It was too sad I was told. This reasoning coddles the genocidal settler colonialism internalized in us. It is too hard of a story to reckon with, because its the story we are participating in now.

Genocide as the cost for US domination, wealth, land and power for a few, is THE driving story still embodied by this country, evidenced by unconditional support of Israeli genocide of the indigenous Palestinian people. So many children lost, maimed, suffering...
