Breaks can be good! But it does take me a while to get back into a project too.

We do our tree about a week before Xmas typically but we put other decorations up after Thanksgiving.

When I go by memory I so often make continuity errors! I'm incredibly grateful for the search function in ebooks. But it would really help if I was more careful tracking who was born when, who went to Eton or Harrow, eye color, etc...

Sounds like the needs a quiet ballad with no chorus!

Definitely different for different holidays! The mid-winter holidays seem to inspire particularly early decorating. Though I was amazed at how early some people decorated for Halloween this year.

That's the wonderful thing about inspiration - it takes us so many different places. I love listing the varied inspirations for my books. And also looking at stories by the same writers that share an inspiration - and how differently they turn out!

That makes sense! I tend to think about the parents in bits and piece as I develop characters.

Practicality and confidence are a good combination!

I've felt the same! Although often if I stop it's because I'm not sure where the story is headed...

Great you are finishing it! Was it easier after the break?

I love Scrivener! Do you use the character templates? I used those early on in my series but have been bad about updating them.

Yes, all that info is so helpful. Sometimes I write it down - more often I have it in my head, I confess. Do you you use some sort of bio worksheets or just write it in a regular doc?

Hi! Very exciting to be that close to being done!

This question was also inspired by M being in Little Mermaid last week. But it could just be a song your MC might sing.

And part of "regular" society is being self-conscious about your appearance. Especially as a woman. That makes total sense!

As myth or fairytale? Absolutely! :-). Love the Selkie reference - I used a Selkie reference once about my heroine feeling she didn't belong in her husband's world.

That's a very strong goal - and I can totally see that from what you've said about the plot!
November 13, 2025 at 4:02 AM
So being in the wider world makes her reflect on it? I can see that.

Oh good question! It's only been 7 years at this point so they look pretty much the same - Mélanie Rannoch is more confident and also not try to fit into the beau monde as much so wears her hair down sometimes and forgoes a corset at times :-).
November 13, 2025 at 2:49 AM
That's interesting! I usually know way more about how my characters look than I use in the book. I try to layer in description instead of going on in lots of sentences.

Hi! Great to see you!
