The humble itanium:
An overwhelmingly complex diagram of the failed "Itanium" architecture from Intel, featuring what they called Explicitly Parallel Instruction Computing, "EPIC" (As opposed to CISC or RISC). The lack of software support and the inherent complexity made it expensive to adopt. Despite being faster in practice for a variety of programs (when specifically developed for it), it lost the market to the current method of brute-forced compute by simply having a lot of processors.
