Preventive measures can then be taken to ensure the long-term functioning of the QDs. A QD digital twin would allow for a more resource-efficient solution, based on simulating QD ageing and property changes through accelerated kinetic schemes under user-defined loading conditions

Through a complete atomically resolved structural characterisation and an understanding of potential failure modes at short and long time scales, we hope to be able to create a digital QD that evolves under virtual working conditions and predicts potential mechanisms of ageing.

This enables the forecasting of ageing and failure modes, which in turn indicate how the turbine needs to be modified/fixed to avoid the predictions of the digital twin.

A digital twin of a QD would work similarly!

By continuously monitoring the behaviour of wind turbines, one can use the obtained data to predict how a virtual copy of the turbine (digital twin) will evolve.

Now, I am thrilled to begin a new journey as an #MSCA PhD fellow within the #TTT project in Milan. My research will focus on using ultrafast optical spectroscopy techniques to investigate single failure processes in quantum dots and nanocomposites.

Driven by curiosity and a desire to grow, I pursued my Master's thesis in computational chemistry, where I theoretically studied azobenzene systems covalently grafted onto a graphene monolayer.
January 23, 2026 at 12:22 PM
Most recently, I completed the Erasmus Mundus Master's in Chemical Nanoengineering (CNE), a prestigious program that took me across France, Poland, and Italy, offering me the chance to explore not only the nanoworld but also diverse cultures.

Here’s a little more about his story, in his words:

"Hello! I am Claudiu, originally from Romania. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Medical Chemistry from the University of Bucharest, where my thesis focused on the photochemical degradation of Basic Red 2.

NQR is sensitive to crystallinity, crystal orientation, and local structure, and can be applied directly to large ingots in their growth ampules. The technique reveals the benefits of additional purification and enables reliable crystal quality control.

This work shows that nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spectroscopy is a fast, noninvasive method to assess the quality of melt-grown CsPbBr₃ crystals for radiation detection.

When cation dynamics are frozen in MAPbBr₃ QDs, the size-dependent NMR shift re-emerges, supporting this mechanism. These findings underscore the central role of dynamic disorder in shaping the electronic structure of soft perovskite QDs.

Although all compositions show the expected size-dependent photoluminescence, hybrid perovskites display a markedly reduced confinement signature in NMR. Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations attribute this effect to disorder-induced modulation of the electronic wave function.

Their electronic structure, however, is also strongly influenced by phonons and local disorder. This study demonstrates that ^207Pb NMR spectroscopy serves as a powerful complementary probe of local electronic environments in CsPbBr₃, MAPbBr₃, and FAPbBr₃ QDs.

Colloidal lead halide perovskite quantum dots (QDs) exhibit size-dependent optical properties arising from quantum confinement, typically seen as photoluminescence blueshifts in smaller QDs.

I also monitor reversible and irreversible changes in emission under different illumination power, temperatures, and gas environments to identify key factors affecting stability and contribute to the development of more resilient nanomaterials.
