There is a “lottery factor”; if the glue person leaves there could be a gap in responsibility, but hopefully communicating and documenting that glue work would make the transition easier.

I’m fairly senior and further promotions are not a concern at this point, so I’m happy to take on that work. Part of the work has been to show junior devs what glue work is and its value while also not making them do that work.

I’m the “glue person” at my place of employment. I’m able to make it work by:
- Over-communicating about what I’m doing and how that work has a positive impact on the business.
- Making it part of the job description.
- Over-communicating about what I’m doing and how that work has a positive impact on the business.
