I’m honored that the work I do writing for and communicating with multiple audiences has been recognized with an honorable mention for the GAD New Directions Award!

This is special to me because it recognizes a critical element of my scholarship that is often downplayed in academia

Will you be at the Boston Book Festival today? Come see me at 2pm! I’ll be on a great panel about sports, rivalry, and culture.

It’s been a busy and fun semester, traveling around to talk about “Tackling the Everyday” (@ucpress.bsky.social), and I’m not done yet 🤓🤓
October 20, 2025 at 1:02 PM
The best part was getting to shout out friends who are also writing books that fall under the umbrella of sports studies, like @doclb2.bsky.social, @courtmcox.bsky.social, and @amirarose.bsky.social

Check out my interview with @blackagendareport.bsky.social, where I got to describe my @ucpress.bsky.social book, connect it to what’s currently happening in college sports, and pitch the idea of un-learning the “football team as family” and “student-athlete” narratives

And the traveling begins!

Today I join History & Sociology at GA Tech to kick off their fall 25 Speaker Series. Looking forward to talking to grad students, learning about their Sports, Society, and Tech Program, and discussing my book.

Thanks to their organizing committee for the generous invite!

This Mother’s Day, I’m honored to write for Essence about the ways that Black football moms are essential to the sport, but often overlooked for their contributions

Happy Mother’s Day to all the football moms and to those who inspire and care for me daily 🌷🌷

I brought the nice weather with me to New Haven to talk about my book ☀️☀️

I really enjoyed being in community with other anthros about my work. Ashley of the @leithlab.bsky.social was a great host and thanks to her diligent organizing, I had a wonderful visit!

Thanks to my agent, aka my mom, @tressiemcphd.bsky.social knows my name and has my book 😍😍

Check mom out, casually chatting her up

This also means that I’m now on Instagram, so help me catch up on 15 years of social media and connect with me there 🙃

UVA, my alma mater, showing out in a way that is disappointing but not entirely surprising

this is Thomas Jefferson's university, after all
March 8, 2025 at 5:49 PM
10/10 would recommend inviting a former student to chat with you about your book

my convo with DeWayne Carter at @epiloguebooks.bsky.social ranged from balancing school and football, to dealing with strenuous work outs, to recognizing teammates and family who helped him thru it all

what a treat!

“One strange feature of Blackness is how often it is treated as static. Like Black just is as it will ever be. But displaced and misnamed people are ever evolving out of necessity.

We the people who are darker than blue remain under construction.” 💙💙
