Whoa. A new approach by NJ’s convicted former senator, as the president makes a flurry of pardons. Menendez has about 2 weeks before he’s expected to start an 11-yr sentence, barring a stay from the 2nd Circuit.

Video taken this morning in Newark, outside new migrant detention center that’s run by one of the country’s largest private prison companies. The site began housing detainees facing deportation on May 1, and has a 15-year contract with ICE.

Look what happens when NJ State Police troopers actually enforce traffic safety laws on the Turnpike and Parkway. Serious accidents plummeted by 18% in 1st quarter of this year, compared with 1st quarter of 2024, when troopers had essentially stopped writing tickets b/c they were mad at AG.

From Oct. 2023 thru Nov. 2024, NJ has paid Randy Mastro and his NYC law firm $1.1 million to fight congestion pricing, according to data obtained through a record request. This likely does not include the 6-hour court hearing 2 weeks ago or the pending appeal. $250/hour is reduced rate, docs note.

Unscientific congestion pricing observation: I stepped on a bus in New Jersey at 9:09am. It was slightly more filled than usual but very manageable. We arrived at Port Authority in Midtown at 9:39am.

In a year that saw a drastic statewide slowdown in traffic enforcement by NJ State Police troopers, roadway fatalities soared. This screenshot was taken a few hours before New Year and the data may change slightly. During the slowdown, tickets for DWI, speeding and cellphone use plummeted. 1/6

Bob Menendez has asked that his Jan. 29 sentencing be postponed so that he can be there to support his wife, Nadine, during her trial (set to start a week beforehand) and so that media coverage of the sentencing doesn’t bias jurors who will weigh the evidence against Ms. Menendez.
