He was never a citizen of Mexico. He was a U.S. citizen all of his life. He lived in Texas for 25 years after Texas won its independence and writes extensively of this experience. Crazy to think there were bison and wolves roaming around in Austin.

When I saw Carol O'Connor interviewed in real life I couldn't believe he was not more like Archie Bunker. Same with Jean Stapleton and Edith. Turns out Carrol O'Conner had, like, a master's in English Lit or something like that.
