In Pennsylvania electricity has risen 13% from a year ago, as utilities upgrade electric grids to accommodate new AI data centers. The cost of heating a home this winter is expected to rise 7.6 % to an average $1389 because of rising electricity for new AI data centers.

America’s indifference towards its poor did not appear suddenly during the Trump administration. It’s been a feature of Democratic and Republican governments over the last 50 years. Although the Republicans are worse, the old Democratic elite aren’t much better.

Trump’s legislation will take health coverage from millions of people and raise healthcare costs for millions more through cuts to Medicaid and the health insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act. It will trim hundreds of billions from the Snap nutrition assistance program for the poor.

President Trump, on his first day in office, declared energy was a national emergency. But it wasn’t energy, it was a predicted shortage of electricity due to expansion of data centers and AI. Trump’s pro-coal, anti-renewables agenda is making things even worse.

On jobs and the economy, Trump's approval rating among young people is now minus-22, and on inflation and prices minus-31. In Virginia and New Jersey, Spanberger and Sherill succeeded with young people by running on concrete economic issues - rent and grocery costs.

Costs for goods and services are 25% above where they were in 2020. Even though the inflation rate is below its recent 2022 high. 44% of middle class respondents said their financial situation is worse than it was a year ago. Only 15% trust the federal government to do the right thing.

Data centers typically bring few permanent positions. Data centers only employ 100-200 people, and keeping up with the ever increasing price of electricity just isn’t worth the few jobs that come with it.

A single hyperscale AI data center can consume as much electricity as a large city. To meet this skyrocketing demand, utilities must invest billions in new power generation capacity, transmission lines, and grid upgrades. Such capital costs will be passed onto American families.
