Similar to productivity improvements by increasing cost of labour via NLW and NI, I wonder if this is a nuance that's been spotted by some observers. Could be a source of consumer surplus/better living standards. Would be keen to people like @duncanweldon.bsky.social exploring this...

The point is mostly self-discipline, being proactive and motivated. It also comes back to good management and trust. Being 100% office-based is, for me, not as productive as we can be, but if you don't trust your staff - and they can't be trusted to work diligently - then you have bigger problems...

I had a great day in the office and managed to take an hour to talk to two mentees 1:1 👌 But I also spent five hours on Teams anyway, and I'll need tomorrow and this evening at home to catch up with written work... so tomorrow I'll work an extra two hours, make my own lunch and work from home 👍

A lot of what I read focuses on this as a tax-raising budget with an element of politics, but it also makes sense if you view the Chancellor and gov't as taking action against low wage, low-investment economy and rebalancing incentives around shortage public sector occupations.
