PI @ Mucin Biology Groups, University of Gothenburg 🇸🇪. Very excited about #epithelial #cell #biology, #mucins and #glycotime. Also building MucoLife Therapeutics (mucolife.com) to tackle the unresolved problem of pulmonary mucus obstruction.

And finally Bruce Vallance who provided the valuable C. rodentium strains and helped identify critical experimental and conceptual gaps in the first drafts of the paper.

Thank you all!

Many folks in my lab and the Mucin Biology Groups contributed to this work. They’re not on this platform (yet), but they should be acknowledge for their hard work (1/n)

I still think the best approach is to determine what known markers you can detect in your culture. Once this is established you gain a better understanding of how your intervention affects the cell trajectory, i.e. towards a specific lineage type

Are you growing primary cells or a cell line? Our experience is that primary cultures and organoids lose important features present in the in vivo setting. I suggest you benchmark your cultures against cell type-specific markers in the native airway epithelium, identified by scRNA-seq.

Oh, right. Excellent!

What kind of in vitro cell system are you using?

Hi @jeffmold.bsky.social

MUC16 is broadly expressed in the airway epithelium. CEACAM6 has a narrower expression profile. I suggest you browse the different tabs over at HPA: www.proteinatlas.org/ENSG00000181...
