Not only is this one of the more visually stunning parts of the level, we also see Lucifer looming in the background, and this entire part gives both the feeling of unsettling desolation and slight dread.

Finally, we enter the 9th circle of hell, where traitors lie. In Dante's Inferno, the treacherous are punished by being frozen in ice, unable to move. Additionally, Lucifer himself is trapped in ice, forced to chew on the worst traitors, namely Brutus, Judas, and Iscariot.

part through the end. Throughout this section, we see burning tombs (punishment against heretics), a river of boiling blood (punishment for ones violent against their neighbor), and living flames (punishment for certain types of fraudsters).

Next we enter the City of Dis, which encompasses the 6th through 9th circles of hell. This is basically the place where people who were actually malicious throughout life go, like heretics, frauds, traitors, and people who were violent throughout life. In Slasher, this section encompasses the tower-

Now, we reach the 5th circle of hell, wrath. Through here, we see souls of the damned in the water, which mirrors Dante's description of the Wrath layer, where souls were damned to fight in the water of the River Styx. This is a more on the nose allusion, and is represented very well in Slasher.

differences, one prime example being the pyramids, which allude to Ultrakill's interpretation of the Greed Ring, where the sinners roll rocks and heavy objects up pyramids just to fall and repeat, melding both Dante's original punishment and Sisyphus's punishment in mythology into one.

Moving onto the 4th circle of hell, the greedy sinners are punished by rolling rocks up a hill while opposing each other, bumping into each other, yelling at each other, then restarting the cycle. Slasher takes more creative liberties and meshes it a bit with the 3rd layer, but there are some-

While slasher does not carry many of these aspects into the level, it does show a more rounded ground, signifying mounds of mud or clay. Additionally, there are many bones in the ground, which could be an allegory for how the gluttons in hell starve to the point of resembling skeletons.

After this, we enter the third circle of hell, gluttony. While the resemblance to Dante's Inferno is not as clear with this as the first 2 layers have been, we can still notice some similarities. The third circle consists of gluttonous sinners wallowing in a filthy pool of mud while starving.

Next, we enter lust, the second circle of hell. The lustful are tortured by an endless wind, shown in Slasher as furniture and many things floating, likely being blown away by a very strong wind current. Gradient and lighting here are also amazing, and it sets an almost ethereal mood (ironic).
October 19, 2024 at 6:54 PM
We then enter the first circle of hell, Limbo. Limbo is basically for the sinners that did not worship God or were not baptized through their lifetime. As such, they are forced to live in a world close to heaven, but away from God, their savior.

This door is an allusion to the gate in Dante's Inferno, specifically the one that says "Abandon hope, all ye that enter here".
October 19, 2024 at 6:14 PM
We start off at an area that is hell, but not inside any of the circles here. Nothing really special, just sets the mood.

sity (going from cheesy haunted house to killing a clone of yourself.) Slasher derives aspects from both of these stories. The more obvious of the two is Dante's Inferno, as there are numbers marking which circle of hell you are in at any point of the level.
