“This award shows that when young people are given space to contribute, they can have a real impact on the community. The Youth Entrepreneur Market wasn’t just an event, it was a moment where kids and teens felt seen, supported, and part of something bigger in Somerset.”

Reflecting on the award, Youth Council President Sara Guinand noted how meaningful this recognition is for young people in the community, saying:

Hosted collaboratively by the Youth Town Council and Town Staff, the Youth Entrepreneur Market invited students from kindergarten through twelfth grade in Somerset and nearby municipalities to showcase and sell their creations at the Town Hall.

Somerset received this award in recognition of our programs and events that bring residents together and strengthen civic life including the Newcomers Party, the Nonagenarians Ice Cream Social, the Mayor’s Brown Bag Lunches, the Town Talks lectures, and the Youth Entrepreneurial Market.

Specifically, that all sidewalks have a minimum continuous clear width of 48 inches. and a continuous clear height of 80 inches.

The Town Staff designated a day for the Town to trim vegetation along Town sidewalks to bring them into compliance with the U.S. Access Board's Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG).
