The Oscar is basically his. He was at such a disadvantage here and he still won.

I'd love to see Wolfwalkers on the big screen, though I'm not sure how likely that would be.

BEST MOVIE: TRAIN DREAMS

It honestly isn't close. The best film of 2025 without a doubt. The cinematography, the performances, the story, the emotion, all of is beautiful. Seeing this in cinema with a full audience was incredible, as everyone in tears by the end. Another all-timer for me.

WORST MOVIE: MARCHING POWDER

A day in the life of a true Brexit geezer. Nick Love and Danny Dyer's boomer comedy film about men being allowed to be men, including getting into fights, doing a bit of coke, and being an all-around useless twat. You don't have to change to be loved, even if you suck.

WORST BEST MOVIE: EDDINGTON

I will never understand why people like this film that does nothing and says nothing about an incredibly sensitive topic. It feels like both a boomer and a teenager co-wrote this film, each with different ideas of what makes a compelling film.

BEST WORST MOVIE: WAR OF THE WORLDS

This movie should have never seen the light of day, but I'm beyond grateful that it did because it's one of the funniest films of the year. Ice Cube's performance is so over the top and outrageous that you can't help but be super invested in this Amazon advert.

BEST ACTRESS: SALLY HAWKINS (BRING HER BACK)

I feel few people will feel the same, but Sally Hawkins as Laura in Bring Her Back has stuck with me all year. It's such a different role than usual for her, yet she's slotted into this insane mother type character perfectly. Underrated performance.

BEST ACTOR: JOEL EDGERTON (TRAIN DREAMS)

Joel Edgerton as Robert Grainier brings one of the most emotional performances of the year. He feels like the most realistic portrayal of a person living with crippling grief in any film this year. You feel every single emotion of his, no matter how subtle.

BREAKTHROUGH ACTORS: CHASE INFINITI & MILES CATON

The two biggest films of 2025 had two incredible breakthrough performances, Chase Infiniti as Willa and Miles Caton as Sammie. They're among the best parts of their own films and both have an incredible acting future ahead of them.

MOST ANTICIPATED 2026 FILM: DUNE: PART THREE

Without a doubt, Dune: Part Three is my most anticipated 2026 release. Dune: Part Two was my favourite film of 2024 and I can't wait to see how Denis Villeneuve's vision for Dune concludes. The second film shot entierly with IMAX cameras too.

MOST ANTICIPATED 2025 FILM THAT WON'T RELEASE UNTIL 2026 IN THE UK: MARTY SUPREME

The more I think about Marty Supreme, the more excited I get to finally see it early next year. It feels like the last of the Best Picture contenders I haven't seen that will be among my favourites.

BEST FILM I SAW THAT DIDN'T RELEASE THIS YEAR: WOLF CHILDREN

This year was my introduction to Mamoru Hosoda's work, and Wolf Children above everything else that didn't release this year sticks in my mind. An incredibly beautiful film about motherhood and the different paths your children may take.

BEST FILM FORGOTTEN BY RECENCY BIAS: BLACK BAG

It's such a shame when a great film releases very early on in the year because by the time the year ends, it'll be a distant memory. Black Bag was one of my early favourites of the year, a great Soderbergh thriller that I hope more people remember.

BEST BFI FILM FESTIVAL FILM: WAKE UP DEAD MAN

This is mostly an excuse to give Wake Up Dead Man something because I loved it but it wasn't my first choice elsewhere. My current second favourite of the Benoit Blanc films, but I can feel something in this one that will grow on me with each rewatch.

BEST SCREEN UNSEEN FILM: I SWEAR

Screen Unseen is a cinema event where an upcoming movie is shown early, but no one knows what film it is. Out of every one I saw this year, I Swear was the best. An incredible film about John Davidson's journey with tourettes, including all the ups and downs.
