The late 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 received a 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 for his groundbreaking work covering the civil rights movement, his pioneering role as the first Black columnist at the Philadelphia Daily News, and for co-founding the National Association of Black Journalists 50 years ago.

The prize for 𝗜𝗹𝗹𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 went to 𝗔𝗻𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗻𝗮𝗲𝘀 "for delivering piercing commentary on powerful people and institutions with deftness, creativity – and a fearlessness that led to her departure from [The WaPo] after 17 years."
