the entire first part was pure cinema, but i have mixed feelings about the highschool arc.
not saying that I didn't like it but it does feel like i'm having a schizophrenic episode sometimes (plus reading it weekly didn't help).

I'd say that for the majority of the portion the manga would be a better way to experience OP, but it's upto your preference regarding animation vs reading.
Oh yeah and if you've enjoyed One Piece till now, you're in for a ride for the next few arcs plus the art really starts shining around Vol. 20
