Temple Stream and Hopkins valley are also great options and on the same route to Chistchurch. Was there just before Christmas and access is good. South Temple was beautiful.

Ahuriri valley track is extremely runnable and there are great huts. Loop inland at Oamaru and it’s not too far to Christchurch on your way out.

We used to get regular Kererū strikes but got onto the bird alert stickers via kererubrewing.co.nz They have worked brilliantly - we have a lot of glass and many (live) birds. One on every window now.

Chatham island forgetmenots somehow thrive in harsh conditions to flower every spring for us. I worry about how even the hardy will get through the next few years. The clue is in the leaves.
