The problem is, we could build a lot more homes and they'll just be snapped up by various types of investors, ranging from wannabee slumlords, all the way up to investment firms. Until we get these people away from residential property, we'll never make any meaningful progress on the issue.
The take I am most certain of that gets me in the most trouble is just "The reason homes are so expensive is because there are not enough of them, so we really really really need to build more of them."
