that's why I can't wait to finish this book I'm writing so I can just stop writing forever and go back to making video games >:)

hell yeah bro, that's the way tbh, it's what I try to do lmao

they can describe things and remember things of course, but there's no picturing involved at any point. To my understanding that's why "visual" interaction is very important for them. Because "seeing" stuff makes things engaging*? and when you have to work really hard to do that it can suck.

droqen, I think you've seen through the matrix too hard and there may be no way back. I'm just a lil lady who likes to jump on platforms and attack things : / lmao

I love books. I'm writing a book. I have a very vivid minds eyes. However, my partner has aphantasia, not so common, but there is an important difference between external sense data and internal sense data that does matter for a lot of people. Again, it's an issue of accessibility.

I'd enjoy an elaboration on what you mean by this

I think accessibility is why. 70% of all humans on earth have a device that games can be played on. I think the ease of access and ease of use is the factor in games interactive domination. Not saying it's good, it's status quo. What do you want the state of interaction to look like?

I blame @wayneradio.tv for recommending this pod that produced such a shriveled feeling of confusion at the apparent smallness of the internet

Sometimes, you gotta stir the pot with something radical to get people to get to the core of what's important, and it worked for me imo

a website IS software, especially if it has a button

feeling nostalgic for the darkness 😔

I think some people really like video games too, but to your point, if I could go out into the woods with my friends and build a castle I would, but instead I have minecfaft lol

true, but also, as gameplay becomes heavier, think Nioh 2 Co-Op, also so to does the externalized experience, at least for me, discussing builds and the silly things that happened. It really does depend on the game. I've spent many times hiding in the trees (dota) with friends goofing off.

as a person who believes freewill is an illusion, I know that there's reasons why we assign value to anything, even if pre-concious. however, I'm in the camp of, I love my friends and partners. time with them makes us mutually happy. Sometimes it's with games. I don't need to think about it more.
May 11, 2025 at 3:21 PM
all very fair points, I do think it may just come down to different kinds of people. just as some people don't want to be in a book club or something. some people don't live near you but you want to spend time, maybe you talk. for me, agency in a shared space while talking adds value.
May 11, 2025 at 3:14 PM
I think that's a deeper question about spending time with people in general and is broader than games. I would say there's definitely something to be said for games that make you work together or facilitate laughs and conversation. It may come down to thoughts on intrinsic vs extrinsic value...uh oh
May 11, 2025 at 3:07 PM
also on a lighter note, somthing very important for me is spending time with loved ones. what is to be said about gameplay as a medium that facilitates that? That's always been my most important kill gameplay concern.
May 11, 2025 at 2:52 PM
mostly my point is about figuring out how to make a game that forces a player to externalize their experience versus internalize it, but not just via story. Can gameplay make you go want to have an important conversation? Books and films do this. I think games can. I'm thinking about Psycho Patrol.

I'm gonna make a game where in order to level up, you have to enter the badge number of police you've killed irl
