Elected officials shouldn't just represent their base. They should represent the whole electorate.
Unfortunately, in most systems the only voters with any leverage are the ones who voted for the winner. Voters who prefer others have no power.

Few can trust him or respect him.
In a multipolar world with China as last resort alternative, the US has no longer the control it once had in the 20th century.
