🌾 On view : Learning from Nature…? Botany at MODEM
🐍Upcoming exhibition: Judit Lilla Molnár Snakes and Ladders at Space Gallery Budapest
We discussed botanical misnomers, the challenges of animal husbandry, and how raising children brings new challenges in the field. We also tasted the landscape with sourdough crackers, chamomile tea, and false indigo honey. A rare moment when ecological knowledge entered a contemporary museum! 🌿

Expect stories of resilience, deep knowledge of the land, and a glimpse into the everyday realities of those who sustain this way of life. And because landscapes aren’t just seen but tasted, Zsófia is preparing a guided tasting of the Hortobágy region, bringing the flavors of the land to the table.

As the collective puts it:
"Our goal is to show the values and beauty of the past in the present. Women and men work together, complementing each other. By preserving our natural landscapes and producing healthy meat, we strive to live and shape the present and future of shepherding."

As part of the MODEM’s 9th DAIR exhibition Learning from Nature? – Botany, we’re bringing these stories to the forefront. Led by Zsófia Szonja Illés in collaboration with the Women in Shepherding collective, today’s event explores the hidden histories and evolving futures of pastoral life.
