I saw the film in 4DX format btw. It's not a complex movie unlike something like JW Dominion—in fact it has a very simple plot—and I think that works in this case. I did feel like the ending was rather truncated though. I wish it was like 15 minutes longer.

TL;DR: The film was 7/10 for me. Solid.

Maybe that was because of the time constraints, but the composer also did the last two Harry Potter films and I also don't like the music of those two films, so it may be just that their style doesn't click with me personally. Oh well.

The only parts of the score that I genuinely liked were either reused JP themes by John Williams or something heavily inspired by them. I haven't listened to the soundtrack in isolation just yet, but upon my first viewing there were no new memorable themes or motifs that stood out to me.

The downside for me personally was the music, which honestly felt kinda generic. It's fine moment to moment, but once you look at the bigger picture there is hardly any cohesion or rhyme or reason as to why what is playing is playing.

As for the film itself it wasn't the best JP/JW movie ever but I enjoyed it, especially thanks to the character of Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey). I guess as a fellow nerd and researcher I sympathised with him most. Also, nice spinosaurus redesign (might be a hot take?).

So during my stay in the cinema they restocked some of the merch that had been sold out so I ended up buying more than I intended (which cost more than I care to admit...)

For me, therefore, Fantasy is not a form of escapism; contrarily, it is deeply rooted in reality no matter how fantastical its contents may be. Its fundamental connection with the Real is the reason why so many people connect with stories of imaginary people in imaginary worlds.
