Actually, the extra vote counts again on a re-vote (according to insidesurvivor.com/jeff-probst-...) which I think could have meant a deadlock, and kept both Kyle (idol) and Kamilla (deadlock) safe in a rock draw, making it even more likely a California Girl would flip to avoid deadlock.

If they had been wrong on where the votes were, played the Idol wrong, without the extra vote it would have been a 3-2 vote with Kamilla going home. The extra vote gave them both a chance, maybe have to convince someone to flip on a re-vote but a chance either way. At least that's how I took it.
