This blows me away so much. While growing up in the Southern US, I dreamed of seeing the aurora. It wasn't until I moved to Canada I saw them.

In the last few years is seems like southern states are seeing them more often. Child me would have loved that.

It is like a bad junior high baseball game where the person who made the "winning run" is celebrated and the batter who got the 3rd out in the nineth inning is demonized.

Don't even get me started on the whole "scientific discovery implies moral character" BS.

1 or 2 cents goes to 0 cents. 3 or 4 cents goes to 5 cents. Similar for 6,7 and 8,9. And this only applies to cash transactions.

Honestly, this seems fair. And given how little I use cash, it doesn't affect me.

The polish phase...

Sanding is to woodworking as polishing is to game dev.

If a "publicly releasable server" is required and it diverges significantly from the server used internally, I fear that the quality of that server will be lacking. The video covers this under the notion of having to rethink the dev process. But it is an example of how things aren't trivial.

IP and licensing of that IP seems like it might complicate things. There have been instances of IP being pulled from a published game after the license expires. This seems like it might be possible to use this as a tool to thwart efforts by this initiative.

I'm not an IP lawyer...

When it comes to 3rd party licensed software, the terms for client binaries and server binaries are significantly different. For server binaries, game devs have a LOT more freedom to license software that can NOT be distributed freely. This isn't a trivial problem to solve.

Just checked Alberta's levels and thankfully they haven't spiked (yet). I guess we are too busy with measles. COVID is so 2020. (heavy, frustrated sarcasm)

Being someone who was into TAM and "New Atheism", my biggest takeaway was "Just because you share a certain viewpoint with someone does not mean you share any other viewpoints or ideology"

The "do your own research" mantra helped get us into this mess.

Yeah, I would consider that working smarter.

Another thought about being lazy is doing just enough to avoid getting fired.

I once told my boss-boss-boss... (one of the co-CEOs) that my goal was to have everything running so smoothly that I can just sit out on the deck and watch the world pass by.

Being lazy requires no effort. Working smarter requires up front effort to get you to a place where can be "lazy".

Last week a black bear was killed at Black Rock Resort. The bear ended up under the pool area and after 30 minutes the conservation officers decided to kill the bear. I have no other context to their decision.

I do old hand plane "restoration" to make them usable again. Part of the process is flattening the sole of the plane. Lots of finely ground iron.

It does make me nervous sometimes. But thankfully the amounts are low.

Even sawdust is a fire risk in small industrial settings.

As Calgary discovered, removing fluoride not only increased tooth decay, but more importantly, increased oral infections in children.

Untreated oral infections can be very serious. Not only the possibility of damage to the bone, but teeth have a scary rapid rail train to the heart.

I lived the "Why can't you be more like FIFA" life. It isn't fun. You hit the nail on the head.

I'm sorry, but most of those pics look more like old grandpa with bushy eyebrows wondering why the **** those kids are in his yard.
