It absolutely makes sense. Why would you ever want to let go of the lasting love you have for your mom?? Even when the grief doesn't hurt and hit quite as hard, it doesn't mean you love your mom any less. I'd say you're not so much as holding onto it as it simply just... is: a part of you.
